Auburn School District Auburn, Washington AAA-S Division Auburn Trojan Marching Band 1:00 PM Tony Paustian, Band Director Music Selections:Preshow Two selections from Swan Lake My Funny Valentine Mirrors The concept for this years Trojan Marching Band show revolves around the concept of, as the title suggests, reflections. Swan Lake tells the story of our darker side, the side we are not sure we want to see reflected back as well as the playful yet darkly comical aspects of our self. My Funny Valentine is a moment of self-reflection in which we become somewhat accepting of our darkness and begin to realize our beauty. Justin Timberlake's Mirror is an outward reflection of our true inner beauty being projected to the world. Our goal is to communicate the journey from the darker, intrinsic side of our soul to the extrinsic beauty we have to offer the world. Staff: Drum Major - Athena Adams Centennial High School

Richland SD Richland, Washington AAA-S Division Bomber Marching Band 2:30 PM Jason Rose, Band Director The Firebird is a ballet and orchestral concert work by the Russian composer Igor Stravinsky. The ballet centers on the journey of its hero, Prince Ivan. Ivan enters the magical realm of Kashchei the Immortal, with all of the magical objects and creatures of Kashchei. While wandering in the gardens, he sees and chases the Firebird. The Firebird, once caught by Ivan, begs for its life and ultimately agrees to assist Ivan in exchange for eventual freedom. Next, Prince Ivan sees thirteen princesses, with one of whom he falls in love. The next day, Ivan chooses to confront Kashchei to ask to marry one of the princesses; the two talk and eventually begin quarreling. When Kashchei sends his magical creatures after Ivan, the Firebird, true to its pledge, intervenes, bewitching the creatures and making them dance an elaborate, energetic dance: the "Infernal Dance." The creatures and Kashchei then fall asleep; however, while Kashchei is bewitched, the Firebird tells Ivan the secret to Kashchei's immortality. Ivan uses this new knowledge to kill Kashchei. With Kashchei gone and his spell broken, the magical creatures and the palace all disappear. All of the "real" beings, including the princesses, awaken and celebrate their victory. Adeimus SHOW TITLE: “HELIOS” DESCRIPTION: A significant turning point during the year - the days start getting shorter and the nights longer - the June Solstice is often associated with change, nature and new beginnings. In ancient China, the summer solstice was observed by a ceremony to celebrate the Earth, femininity, and the “yin” forces. In northern European countries, when the summer days are at their longest, and in the north it is the time of the Midnight Sun, festivals generally celebrate the summer and the fertility of the Earth. The Fête de la Musique, also known as Make Music Day is an annual music festival celebrated on June 21 in 120 countries around the world. Interestingly, most of the observance is not on the day as we reckon it, commencing at midnight or at dawn. It is customary for cultures following lunar calendars to place the beginning of the day on the previous eve at dusk at the moment when the Sun has set. Join us as we celebrate Midsummer’s Eve, dawn the following morning and the Day of Litha. The University High School Marching Band and Fanfare Ensemble would to take the time to thank the Central Valley School District School Board, Superintendent Ben Small, the University High School Administration and the Instrumental Music Parent’s Association for their continued support of all of the musical arts at University High School.
