Larry Jay, Band Director
Larry G. Jay ö Director"Recollections of the War" by E. Beyer was published in 1883.
This "descriptive musical potpourri" is an extended suite of "Grand War Songs" from the American Civil War. This musical journey takes the listener from the opening bugle calls that gather the forces for the first battle, to the sorrow of losing comrades, the invasion of the South, and back to the reunification of the United States. Some of the tunes in "Recollections of the War" are "For God and Liberty," "Marching Along," "The Vacant Chair," the "Star Spangled Banner," "Marching Through Georgia," and "Glory Halleleujah." These selections definitely give the listener a window to the music of the era.
In an effort to replicate the band sound of the times, the L.C.H.S. Heritage Marching Band will be performing with instruments characteristic of the 1880âs brass bands: Shepardâs Crook Cornets, Eb "Peck Horns," Tenor Trombones, Baritones, and Basses. Some bands also used Clarinets and Piccolos. Actually there are some instruments on the field that are approximately 100 years old, also the Bandâs uniforms are a modern rendition of uniforms of the era. Interestingly, the "Star Spangled Banner" was not our National Anthem at the time Beyer wrote this piece.
We hope you enjoy the trip back to 1883 and "Recollections of the War."
Thanks to the LC I.M.P.A for your tremendous support.

The Falcon marching band show "Windsprints - Persistence" was written by Richard Saudedo. Percussion arrangements were done by Paul Lack and Ben Chambers. "Windsprints" is a flourish of notes and rhythms meant to stir the kind of emotion one might experience during the running of a 50 or 100 yard dash. The piece gets off the "starting blocks" quickly and immediately involves numerous wind and percssion instruments in a technical "race to the finish line!" "Persistence is the neverending feeling within all of us that pushed us to run a little faster, reach a little higher and try a little harder as we attempt to reach our life goals. With persistence, we are capable of turning our dreams into reality.

SHOW TITLE: INDUSTRIAL METROPOLIS
Our show presents the journey from the mid-nineteenth century as the wheels of industry created an American revolution that resulted in the thriving cities that exist from coast to coast. We open with the machines of Industry, move to reflective Opportunity, continue with the social advancements of Technology and close with melodic American folk tunes that lead us to the urban glory of The City. Like the famous 1927 silent film Metropolis, we strive to seek the balance between hands, head and heart ö the mythological city workers, the administrative thinkers, and spiritual mediators who create harmony and peace for the common good.
The Kamiak Show Band is in its fourteenth year of competitive marching. Past performance tours include the 1997 Inaugural Parade, the 2000 St. Patrickâs Day Parade, the 2003 Macy*s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and this year, the band will voyage ˆ Paris for the City of Lights 2006 New Yearâs Day Parade.

Show title: Vitruvias: The Proportions of Man - Mind, Body, Spirit
Leonardo Da Vinci's drawing "Vitruvian Man" incorporates the concepts described in the writings of Vitruvias, an ancient Roman architect. Vitruvias asserted that all forms of architecture should be based on the human form because it is a model of perfection. His justification was that the human body could fit both into a square and a circle from the same center point. In three movements, Mind, Body, and Spirit - the Cascade Sound will portray the ideas of proportion and balance as described by Vitruvias and illustrated by Da Vinci.
Scott Jones, Band Director
Band Director: Scott JonesShow Title: "Carmina Burana"
Carmina Burana - Carl Orff's 1936 paean to earthly desire and cosmic fate cemented itself into standard repertoire long ago. The composer's original setting for chorus with soloists and orchestra, including maximum percussion of 13th century songs and poems by university students, minstrels and monks, is a masterpiece of musical dynamism. Orff considered the score adaptable to theatrical treatments and the music calls out for company. Orff selected 25 songs from the more than 200 in the original collection and arranged them in three groups. The first group is related to spring, the second to gaming and the third to love. The beginning and the end of the work are an invocation to fate whose whims unpredictably control every man's destiny.
