Auxiliary Ron Maier
Picture of Ron Maier Ron Maier has been involved in Marching Band, Drum and Bugle Corps, and Winter Guard since 1974. A native of Bremerton, Washington he was a member of the Titans Drum and Bugle Corps, the Seattle Imperials, the Madison Scouts, and the State Street Review. He has designed for and taught many groups across the United States and Canada, including the Phantom Regiment of Rockford, Illinois; the Marauders of Longview, Washington; Les Eclipses of Montreal, Quebec; and numerous high school bands and winter guards.

Currently, Mr. Maier is Director of Bands at Finn Hill Junior High School in Kirkland, Washington and serves as Judges Coordinator for the Northwest Pageantry Association.


Music Effect Leroy Anderson
Picture of Leroy Anderson Leroy Anderson is the former director of bands at North Central High
School in Spokane, Moses Lake High School most recently at Sandy High School in Sandy, Oregon. He has served as an adjudicator and clinician of Marching and Symphonic Bands in the Northwest for thirty years. He is currently serving as the Director of Bands at Mount Hood Community College.

Music Performance Ensemble Jeff Ray
Picture of Jeff Ray Jeff Ray is in his 16th year of public education, and is currently the director of the 400 member Olympic View Middle School Band from Mukilteo, WA. This group was won events all over the Pacific Northwest and California. They were also the first middle school in the United States to perform at a division one NCAA Bowl game, performing with Destiny's Child.

Prior to entering education Mr. Ray spent 25 years in drum and bugle corps as a member, instructor, and as a director. Corps Mr. Ray has been affiliated with include the Percussionaut Patriots, Renaissance, Freelancers, Imperials, Marauders, Argonauts, Spartans, and Cascades.

Mr. Ray also keeps a very busy performance schedule as a lead trumpet player. He has backed artists from the Brecker Brothers to George Burns, played for cruise lines, and currently plays for various latin groups in the Seattle area.


Music Performance Individual Mark Lane
Picture of Mark Lane Mark Lane is currently in his 26th year of teaching and is currently at Heritage High School in the Evergreen School District in Vancouver, Washington. Prior to his position at Heritage, he was Director of Bands at Kennewick High School in Kennewick, Washington and Hermiston High School in Hermiston, Oregon. A native of Spokane, Washington, he received his BA from Eastern Washington University in 1979 and his MA from the University of Oregon in 1988.

Mr. Lane was the Educator of the Year in 1991 for the Hermiston Public Schools and again in 1999 for the Kennewick Public Schools. The National Band Association awarded Mr. Lane Citations of Excellence in 1999 and 2001. In 2001 he was awarded the Tri-City Crystal Apple Award for Excellence in Education. Also in 2001, he was given the Sudler Order of Merit of the John Phillip Sousa Foundation and inducted into the BANDWORLD Legion of Honor. Mark's groups have performed at the Oregon State Music Educators Conference, the Washington Music Educators Conference, the MENC All-Northwest Conference, and the Western International Band Clinic. In addition, his groups performed at the 1994 and 2001 Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parades and the 1999 and 2001 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival.

Mark is a member of the Music Educators National Conference and the National Band Association. He has been very involved in the Oregon and Washington State Music Associations and has served in many capacities. Currently, Mark is the Vice President for the Washington Music Educators Association. In addition, Mark regularly serves as an adjudicator and clinician throughout the area.


Percussion Gary Gimmestad
Picture of Gary Gimmestad Gary Gimmestad has been involved in the marching band/drum corps activity for over 30 years, as a member, instructor, arranger and adjudicator. Most recently, Mr. Gimmestad was Percussion Caption Head for the Imperials Music and Youth Organization, Auburn High School, and Ferndale High School.

Mr. Gimmestad has judged marching band contests throughout the Northwest including the Washington State Championships on several occasions. Mr. Gimmestad is a member of the Percussive Arts Society and has served two terms as President of the Northwest Pageantry Association.


Visual Effect John Fisher
Picture of John Fisher John Fisher has performed with several drum and bugle corps including the Westshoremen, 27th Lancers, and the Madison Scouts. He has been on staff with the Troopers Drum & Bugle Corps in Casper, Wyoming and several bands and drum and bugle corps on the east coast. He is a member of the National Judges Association, the Northwest Pageantry Association and the Oregon Dance and Drill Coaches Association.

Visual Performance Ensemble Ken Sakoda
Picture of Ken Sakoda Kenneth Sakoda has been a marching adjudicator since 1983. He has experience in many types of events, from marching band and drum and bugle corps, to drill teams and color guard. As a program designer and instructor, Mr. Sakoda has numerous titles to he credit. Among these are first place rankings in the Washington State High School Marching Band contest and the Northwest Pageantry Association Grand Championships. His own experience as a performer on the field began in 1960 and continued for ten years.

Visual Performance Individual Kevin Foster
Picture of Kevin Foster Kevin Foster has been a member, instructor, designer and judge in the pageantry arts for 35 years.

Mr. Foster has designed championship marching band, drum and bugle corps, and color guard programs for groups throughout the Western United States and Canada. Always an innovator in performance evaluation, Kevin helped develop and implement the criterion referenced scoring system that has been adopted throughout the country. The criterion referenced system seeks to identify and reward everything positive the performers do rather than penalizing for errors and flaws.


The Harvest Marching Band Festival is organized primarily under the rules of the Western Band Association.

Finalist Policy
Ten bands from Preliminary Competition will be selected to participate in Finals Competition in the following manner:
  1. The top two bands (if available) from each division will be selected
  2. The remaining positions will be filled by bands from any division in Preliminary Score order
  3. Bands perform in Preliminary Score order
  4. Caption Awards (Best Marching, Auxiliary, etc.) are awarded to the highest scoring band in Preliminary Competition
